    Posted: January-30-2012 at 11:03am
I have it installed on my home computer with XP Pro to set it up before uploading to a host. I also have CP 2.5 and 3.3 running on it with no problem reading or writing.

I'm having a problem with the read / write to the Config folder and write to the database.
I have added pics to show I do have read / write permissions, the same as with prodImages, imports and affiliate.
Can antone offer any help as to why they won't read.

The connString reads correctly.

These are the errors showing:
1. Database Permissions
 ERROR Cannot modify the design of table 'testWriteTable'. It is in a read-only database. ERROR
The database does not have WRITE permissions. (-2147217911)
The file must have read and write permissions on the server before continuing. If you don't know how to change file permissions on your web server ask your web hosting company for assistance.
2. Parent Pathing
 Is enabled on this server.

3. Folder Permissions
 Unable to read / write to /config folder
 Able to read / write to /prodImages folder
 Able to read / write to /import folder
 Able to read / write to /affiliate folder
4. Email Components Found On Server
Select the one you wish to utilize.
CDOSYS (Recommended)

5. XML Component
MSXML2 v3.0 Parser was found on the server and will be utilized.

If you right click on the DIRECTORY and not the file itself, does the directory also have read/write permissions?

    Just a thought, looking at the image qbdata0212b Properties have you tried clicking the Unblock button next to the security message.

    I also don't see a CPdata directory there, as that's the default for a new install or have you renamed that? I'd suggest using the default dir names and get it running first before changing anything.

    Regards

    I do have it unblock now and tried a new install and not renaming the files.
    I still keep running into the same problem it will read / write to all the folders but the Config and the database, in fact after the new install I forgot to go through and check the read / write boxes for Imports, Downloads, ProdImages folders and they are able to read / write without a problem.

    This should not be such a problem to get to work Unhappy.

    I have a new install, never changed theses files to read / write:
  • /CPData
  • /Config
  • /Imports
  • /Downloads
  • /ProdImages
  • and I get this:

    < value=1 = name=emailcomponent>CDOSYS (Recommended)

    5. XML Component
    MSXML2 v3.0 Parser was found on the server and will be utilized.

    I change the files to read / write and I get the same results.

    My connString in the config file is "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\inetpub\wwwroot\queensbeads\CPData\store1.mdb;"
    Database is - const dbType = 0
    No change to the rc key yet
    const storeID =  "store"
    const tablePrefix =  "CP_"
    const demoMode =  "N"
    const StoreAdminInstalled = "Y"
    const debugMode = "Y"
    const dbLocked = "N"

    I have a lot of hours in this and can't get past the server tests screen.
    How does everyone else get it on their computer without a problem. I installed version 2.5 without a hitch.
    Can anyone help

    See number 3.  Cannot write to /config folder.  This is where it tells the config where the database is to begin with.  There is where your problem is.  When CP is installed, it rewrites the config file.

    Unfortunately this is not easy to troubleshoot on a Windows XP local box, and not a webserver.   Most people load it into a temporary sub directory to work on before making live.  Is there a reason you cannot do that?

    The person I'm helping with this wants to see it before he commits.
    In my IIS, both my database and config file folder has read / write checked, both files have sharing.
    I don't understand, if I can't get it to read/write here on my machine, why would it read/write on a webserver?

    You should set the permissions on the config folder, not just the file itself. If its just your local box the easiest way is to add 'everyone' in as full control on the config folder and make sure it replicates to all sub folders and files too.

    If you are not that familiar with setting permissions have a read of this; http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/acl_set_permissions.mspx?mfr=true

    No problem, just remember 'everyone' is too open when the site is live on the Internet so that will need changing if you take it live
